Late Haji Abubakar Trunkwala
(1912 – 1937)

The history of The World Group dates back to 1912, when six sons of the Trunkwala Family established a trunk-manufacturing company under the leadership of Late Haji Abubakar Trunkwala. At the time, the company operated under the name of Haji Abubakar Haji Ilyas & Sons in Karachi and sold products all over Indo-Pak subcontinent.

The Trunkwala family always had a passion for investment in Real Estate and thus, built godowns for rental purposes. Later on, these godowns were converted into housing colonies that still exist today and are popularly known as Usmanabad, Ismailabad and Mohammadabad .

A sugar godown at Karachi acquired from Sir Haji Abdullah Haroon became a Sales and Display outlet for iron trunks. Soon, under the name of Sind Leather Works, the product line was expanded to import-export businesses, bags and traveling. Many display outlets were opened in different locations of Karachi.

Late Haji Abdul Rahim Trunkwala
(1937 – 1976)

In 1937, LATE HAJI ABDUL RAHIM TRUNKWALA took over the business and successfully expanded its horizons through import and export of Commodities including Spices, Maizes and Rice, etc. and became along the very few license holders in that era in the Country.

Mehmood Trunkwala
(1973 Onwards)

1973 – 1985
In 1973, Mr. Mehmood Trunkwala took up the torch and founded International Motors in Karachi and set up offices in Nagoya, Tokyo, Kobe and Toyota City in Japan.

International Motors started importing Toyota Pickups, Jeeps, 4x2s, 4x4s, Hi-Aces, Land Cruiser IIs and other SUVs along with famous Starlets. Also started importing cars from England.

Two outlets and car display centers under the name of UNIVERSAL MOTORS were also opened at Karachi.

1985 – 2000
World Group established a showroom and a 3S dealership (Sales, Spares and Service) at Shahrah-e-Faisal Karachi for sales and spares service.

This paved the way for a historic collaboration between World Group and Japanese car manufacturing giants, NISSAN, for their exclusive distribution.

This was quickly followed by a deal with Daihatsu and World Group became the largest distributor of their 800 CC cars.

In 1985, the Group also started trading pulses, spices and maizes and importing Glucose and saline solutions and hydrochloride allied
chemicals.

In 1989, World Group set up a spinning mill of 17200 spindles at Raiwind, Lahore.

In 1991 till 1994, WG Company-International motors availed the YELLOW CAB SCHEME introduce by the government.

The Group proudly managed to get the largest number of Vehicles from Daihatsu as well Mazda Vans and others. This also opened up market of Spare parts and maintenance.

In 1996, the automobile industry was revolutionized with the local assembly of Nissan cars and the Group was awarded the highest sales award.

Daewoo Korea signed a Technical Collaboration Agreement with World Group for the local manufacturing of 800 CC Daewoo Matiz car. So did Ssangyong (Korea) for the local manufacturing of 2700 CC Ssangyong Musso Jeep.

The group further expanded into Agriculture Sector by signing a Technical Collaboration Agreement with Ursus, Poland.

The Group expanded their business into German markets and signed a 3S Dealership with Mercedes MB 100 / 140 and BMW along with other Japanese brands which included Mitsubishi, ISUZU and Nissan Diesel.

2000 – 2007
During the early 2000s, World Group signed a deal with IFFCO, a UAE based cooking oil and confectionery manufacturers, for importing and marketing their cooking oil and confectionery items under the name of Alfa and Tifany.

In 2005, the Group also launched Ssangyong imported Jeeps known as Rexton and Stavic.

The Group also started to shift its focus towards real estate development owing to the huge shortage of housing and to contribute to the growth of Pakistan’s economy.

2007 Onwards

Today, World Group is in the process of expanding its network to 203 countries worldwide and has interests in diverse business sectors which include Automobiles, Real Estate Development Education, Manufacturing Units, International and Local Trading, Golf and Country Clubs, High Tech Industry and Financial Investments.

A few milestone projects include ASF Airport Residencia (a smart housing concept in JV with Airport Security Force), Acacia Country & Golf Club (a landmark project with Pakistan Army comprising of a 18-hole golf course, chalets, a 5-star hotel, a convention center, multiple service apartments, a water park and a theme park), World Academy (an institute providing educational services from Pre-School to O levels), Business Office setups in Medina, Abu Dhabi and other Gulf states and a theme park in DHA Phase 9, Karachi.

In 2017, The World Group has the honor to become the ­first Pakistani Organization succeeded in acquiring Leisure League world largest organization of football 5, 6 & 7 a-side amateur which will INSHA ALLAH promote Football in the Country besides projection of Pakistan as a safe and business friendly nation.

In 2018 Leisure Leagues & World Group proudly sent Team Pakistan to first ever world cup held at Lisbon Portugal. where 32 Countries Participated.

In 2019 Leisure Leagues & World Group sent Team Pakistan to for the second time to world cup held at Crete Greece, where 42 countries participated.

In 2021, World Automobiles revamped their selling of cars ranging from economic to luxury, both imported and local built.

In 2022, they became the authorised dealers for Chery International (3S dealership in Karachi, and 2S in Islamabad). Leisure Leagues & World Group sent Team Pakistan to for the third time to world Cup held at Budapest, Hungary where 40 plus Countries Participated.
